Meet an Orphan

"Meet an Orphan" is an opportunity for you to know some of the children at Otino Waa who need a sponsor. The sponsorship program is the only way that these children can be cared for. They rely on your love and generosity.

NOTE - Children on this page do not have full sponsorship (4 sponsors). They would love to know YOU.

Daniel Olwoch

Joy Amolo was born on 1/17/2000 and has no known siblings.  She speaks Luo and is leaning English.
Joy’s mother was 15 when she was raped by an unknown teenage boy.  Joy was the result of that violent action.  When Joy was 4 her mother died of malaria leaving Joy alone for several days before a grandparent came by and discovered the death and a frightened little girl.  Joy was very quiet and became nervous with strangers.
The grandmother struggled with Joy’s care but was not able to meet even her basic needs of food and clothing.  Hunger was normal.  Joy was never able to trust anyone except her grandmother.
In 2007 the grandmother heard about Otino Waa and walked eight miles to request Joy to be admitted.  She was put on a waiting list and then in early 2010 Joy was brought into a new family and home at Otino Waa.
It will take much patience to bring back trust in Joy.  Her house mom has been challenged with the task and staff members have made counseling part of Joy’s weekly schedule.  She has started school and for now, does not know what she would aspire to be.

Daniel was born on 2/2/2003.  He has three siblings and speaks Luo.  He is currently learning

English.

Daniel does not remember his dad.  He died in 2005 of AIDS.  He remembers a little about his mom, as she died in 2006 of the same disease and complications of childbirth.

An aging grandfather was left with the care of three children, one of them a new born.  Life was full of difficulties for Daniel as he endured hunger, health problems, ragged clothes and little education as his grandfather struggled to care for everyone.  Daniel’s duties included working in the vegetable garden, watching the cattle, hauling water and some of the cooking.

In 2007 an uncle, who was a school teacher took charge of the children and they all moved fifty miles to another location.  At this time the uncle was made aware of Otino Waa and made arrangements for an interview for Daniel.  He was too young, but was put on a waiting list.

In early 2010 he was finally admitted.  He is separated from his siblings but is delighted to have a new home and family.  He started school right away and enjoys learning English.  He does not know what he would like to be.

NOTE: Daniel is new to Otino Waa and has no sponsors so far.
