Otino Waa Children's Village - SPONSORSHIP
Otino-Waa Children's Village is located in Lira, Uganda, East Africa. Otino-Waa, in the Luo language, means "our children." It is home to boys and girls, ages 5-18 and is a place of safety, learning and healing. It offers family, protection, housing, education, health and spiritual guidance to orphaned children. The twenty acre compound contains circles of homes for eight kids, with a widowed "house mom." This home environment recreates a family unit where care and love can be shared. The children have on site school, medical treatment, vocational training, sports, nutrition and 24 hour security.
COULD YOU SPONSOR A CHILD FOR $35/MO?
Rural Spring Development- WATER
Approximately 18 million people in Uganda live in rural villages where all water must be carried by hand. Imagine having to chase the cows out of the water that you yourself will stand in to collect for all your household needs.
Naturally occurring springs are plentiful in northern Uganda, but these are used by both people and animals. Undeveloped water sources are almost always contaminated. Because wood is expensive, most villagers do not boil water to improve their own health standards and little is known about basic sanitation. It is estimated that 2000 people per day will access the typical spring in northern Uganda. Without clean water, their health will suffer.
In two weeks a spring can be improved for $1200 and will impact countless lives.Since 2001, PATH Ministries has conducted these water projects. Recently, Spring #123 was completed.
COULD YOU PARNTER WITH US TO BRING CLEAN WATER TO NORTHERN UGANDA?
How can we be sure that when a child leaves Otino Waa they will have the skills needed to be productive? Vocational training has been an important part of the development strategies for PATH Ministries and Otino Waa, since the inauguration of the first vocational class in 2005. The current POP’s programs at Otino Waa include, baking, sewing, computer, cafe/gift shop, carpentry and bee keeping.
COULD YOU MAKE AN INVESTMENT IN A LIFE?
Surgeries for Children At Risk - MEDICAL
Some children are true orphans and some are considered "Children At Risk" because of their own health or the conditions they came from. Otino Waa Children's Village is home to those who are recovering from surgery or need long term medical care.
Otino Waa Primary and Secondary School - EDUCATION
PATH Ministries and it's supporters, envision what the future might hold for Africa if it could educate all its children, especially its girls, who have traditionally been given few chances for formal learning. Just one person receiving a good education, could break the continuous cycle of poverty.
WOULD YOU BE INTERESTED IN ADDING TO THE EDUCATION OF FUTURE LEADERS IN UGANDA?
In 2003, the original 79 orphans needed a place to worship and learn. What started as a church for the orphanage, under a mango tree, has now blossomed into a weekly community gathering. The curiosity and hunger for God's Word has brought in the surrounding villagers as well as the population of Otino Waa. Property was purchased across the road from the orphanage and the congregation has grown. Sunday brings over 700 worshipers.
IF THE OFFERING PLATE WERE PASSED TO YOU, WHAT WOULD YOU ADD?
Training the Rural Pastor - ISOM
A pastor in Africa may have been given that position simply because he was the first one in the village with a Bible. He may have accepted the Lord before many of his neighbors and then was asked to lead the others. His training would have been very minimal and now he is responsible for a congregation. Unfortunately, this story is common. The ISOM (International School of Ministry) training materials provide the ability to take portable schools to rural areas and train pastors to be leaders in their churches. Since 1998, 2200 have graduated in the PATH sponsored schools.
